Tiffany Haddish Set to Face Off With Ex-Husband in Court Over Abuse Allegations

By TheBlast Staff

Tiffany Haddish better not have any work commitments early next year, because the actress is set to face off with her ex-husband in court over her allegations he abused her.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a Texas judge has set a trial date of April 20, 2020 for the case involving Haddish and her ex, William Stewart.

The two have been battling it out for over a year with no resolution in sight.

Last year, Haddish was sued by her ex, William Stewart, over her memoir, “The Last Black Unicorn.” The book featured a chapter entitled, “The Ex-Husband,” which painted Stewart as abusive and a stalker during their five-year marriage, though she never mentioned him by name.

Stewart sued Tiffany Haddish and Simon & Schuster, the book’s publisher, for defamation, libel, and slander and is seeking in excess of $1 million in damages. Haddish has denied his claims.

He later filed court docs that revealed his lawyer sent several letters to Haddish and S&S in an effort to reach a settlement prior to filing his lawsuit. He claims the comedian responded cryptically, saying, “Be patient your blessings are coming” and “Start to think positive so positive things can come your way. Because your blessings are waiting on you.”

In the filings, his lawyers even claimed Stewart would be able to demonstrate “Ms. Haddish regularly requested Mr. Stewart to become more aggressive with her during sex, including, among other things, to choke her as a part of their sexual intercourse."

Stewart also claims Haddish gave an interview with comedian Dom Irrera in 2012 where she unequivocally says Stewart never beat her. He claims Haddish made a joke that “he never beat me up, he just choked me a little bit” and that choking was often a punchline in her comedy.

The case is ongoing.
