Tekashi 6ix9ine has a new home behind bars and while it may not sound like a good thing, the move is for his safety.
According to the New York City Department of Correction website, the rapper is currently being housed at the West Facility of Rikers Island, which "houses inmates with contagious diseases."
That might sound gruesome but only a portion of the West Facility is designated for that purpose. The structure is the smallest facility on Rikers Island and has “140 specially air-controlled housing units are reserved for male and female inmates with contagious diseases such as tuberculosis.”
Sources tell The Blast that authorities at Rikers are taking all precautions necessary to ensure the safety of their inmates.
The West Facility is often used to house high-profile inmates who may be at risk from other prisoners and was recently home to Wall Street bad-boy Dominque Strauss-Kahn.
The Department of Correction would not comment on whether or not there were specific threats made against Tekashi.
As The Blast previously reported, Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested earlier this week at JFK airport on an outstanding warrant. He was taken into custody over the misdemeanor assault warrant out of Houston, where he was wanted for allegedly choking a 16-year-old boy.
