Tekashi 6ix9ine does not need to be freed because he is not behind bars.

The rapper incited his fans on Tuesday when he first deleted all the photos off of his Instagram page and replaced with a message that said in part, "TEKASHI WONT BE BACK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE."

He then tweeted, "#FREE69" ... which sure sounds like he wanted his fans to think he'd been locked up.

Unfortunately for his street cred ... that's just not true. But here's what actually happened ...

Back in 2015, 6ix9ine (real name Daniel Hernandez) pleaded guilty to "the use of a child in a sexual performance." As part of the terms of his probation, the "Gummo" rapper was required to get his General Education Development certificate (aka a GED) and present it to the court.

6ix9ine was scheduled to do just that on Tuesday, but the county clerk for the Supreme Court of New York County tells The Blast the case was adjourned. The clerk says 6ix9ine's lawyer asked for the continuance.

The case was re-scheduled for June 19, so 6ix9ine has about two months to make sure his GED paperwork is in order ... or else he'll get his wish.

UPDATE

4/12 — 6ix9ine resurfaced in a video to let people know he is not behind bars, two days after he claimed he needed to be “freed.”
