Smoke Dawg, a local Toronto rapper who toured with Drake last year, was shot and killed Saturday night in Toronto. He was just 21.

A statement from a rep for Smoke Dawg (real name Jahvante Smart) reads, “Jahvante touched the lives of many fans not only in Toronto but around the world. Music was able to let him travel the world and chase his dream of becoming a superstar.”

According to police, Smoke and two other people were shot in broad daylight outside of the Cube Nightclub in Toronto’s Entertainment District. Smoke and another man died from their injuries; the third victim, a woman, is expected to recover.

Toronto police have yet to release any information on the suspects.

Drake remembered his friend on social media, writing, “All these gifts and blessed souls and inner lights being extinguished lately is devastating. I wish peace would wash over our city. So much talent and so many stories we never get to see play out. Rest up Smoke.”
