Even though Shaun White is riding high from his epic gold medal win, he couldn't escape the controversy following allegations of sexual harassment from his former bandmate.
During a press conference following his winning run, White dismissed the allegations as "gossip." That comment received massive backlash from the public.
Sitting down with "Today" he apologized for the comment saying, "I'm truly sorry that I chose the word 'gossip.' It was a poor choice of words to describe such a sensitive subject in the world today."
The lawsuit, filed in 2016 and settled in May, accused the snowboarder of repeated sexual misconduct by his former band member, drummer Lena Zawaideh. White has previously denied those accusations.
Referring to the allegations White said to host Savannah Guthrie, "I've grown as a person over the years."
The Blast previously reported that White filed a lawsuit against his insurance company for failing to protect him during the court battle with Zawaideh.
