Selena Gomez's life-saving kidney transplant will hopefully inspire others to donate organs and save hundreds of thousands of people currently waiting on the transplant list.
Brian Shepard, CEO of the United Network for Organ Sharing tells The Blast:
We are thrilled every time someone gets a lifesaving organ transplant. There are more than 116,000 men, women and children, like Selena Gomez, still waiting for a transplant in the United States. Just one organ donor can save up to eight lives.
Shepard hopes that as a result of the wide-spread news Selena received a transplant, "people will register as donors and learn more about living donation."
The Blast broke the story, Selena's best friend donated her kidney and saved the star's life.
