Sarah Jessica Parker is being sued by a prominent jewelry designer who claims the two entered into a multi-million dollar deal for a new line of jewelry but SJP failed to live up to her end of the deal.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Kat Florence says she and SJP signed an endorsement agreement on October 9, 2015 for Parker to promote and assist in the advertising of a new line of jewelry.
Florence says the deal called for her to design a special line of high-end jewelry made of D color flawless diamonds and other gem types. The line would be named after both of them.
In addition, the deal called for Florence to open three high-end jewelry shops in major European cities with Parker required to appear at the opening for at least one of them.
After some negotiating, Florence claims she and Parker entered a five-year deal that called for Sarah Jessica Parker to be paid $7.5 million.
But Florence claims things quickly went south. In the documents, Florence claims Parker made it extremely difficult for her to schedule a launch event, giving her only one possible date and it was in the middle of the afternoon.
Considering the plan was for an evening event, Florence claims she was forced to cancel the launch party.
Only after the deal was signed, Florence claims Parker she would not be able to do anything to promote the line for five months because she had begun filming her television show, "Divorce." Florence says on many occasions, Parker made it clear "that the contract in which she has been paid millions of dollars to promote a new jewelry line is second compared to her acting career."
Florence says Parker "refused to attend other events claiming her scheduling was too hectic. In addition, she refused to do interviews in relation to the jewelry line." She also claims that Parker promoted her show instead of the jewelry line, believing "if she promoted her own television show instead which would then indirectly assist the Plaintiff in promoting her line."
When it came time to open the London store, Florence claims Parker refused to attend. Parker told Florence she was too busy to attend and could not travel from New York to London for the event.
But Florence claims Parker ended up traveling to London around the same time, instead choosing to promote her line of perfume.
Florence says Parker has refused to wear any of the jewelry outside of the catalog photos and hasn't even bothered to follow Florence on Instagram.
Florence is suing for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation. She is seeking unspecified damages.
A rep for Sarah Jessica Parker tells The Blast, "Kat Florence reneged on their contract with Sarah Jessica Parker. They have refused to compensate her after fulfilling her contractual obligations and continue to use her image for advertising and publicity to promote their brand."
