Rose McGowan‘s Twitter account has been reinstated after a temporary ban for tweeting out someone’s phone number.
Twitter justified the ban … on Twitter … by saying, “We want to explain that her account was temporarily locked because one of her Tweets included a private phone number, which violates our Terms of Service.”
They went on to say, “The Tweet was removed and her account has been unlocked. We will be clearer about these policies and decisions in the future.”
Twitter concluded by saying, “Twitter is proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power. We stand with the brave women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices.”
McGowan has been very outspoken about Harvey Weinstein in recent days and her ban from Twitter ignited a passionate response.
Shame on Twitter for shutting down @rosemcgowan This is the kind of silencing we cannot abide!

Wow. Twitter suspended @rosemcgowan for things said to Ben Affleck but not the racist/sexist trolls we see every day. Part of the problem.

And now THIS? You allow Twitter freedom to our president but you silence a woman speaking out about sexual harassment? @rosemcgowan

@rosemcgowan should NOT have been silenced. Isn't this what we are actively trying NOT to do? Let's not silence the victims of abuse

@rosemcgowan 's twitter account has been suspended. I expect to start seeing smear stories on her anytime now. This is the sad reality.
