A Prince fan group has filed an official complaint with the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board in Minnesota claiming the County Attorney who investigated his death failed to disclose a conflict of interest.
In April, Carver County Attorney Mark Metz announced that the investigation into the death of Prince would not result in any criminal charges. He said at the time, "We simply do not have sufficient evidence to charge anyone with a crime related to Prince’s death."
But a group called Justice & Truth for Prince claims that Metz did not disclose that his wife, Kari Schutzenhofer Metz, had a friendship with Kirk Johnson, Prince's longtime friend who took him to see a doctor the day before he died.
The group points to a series of Facebook posts that show Metz commenting on photos of Johnson's. According to the group, Johnson recently made his page private. They also claim Metz's wife also recently deleted her page or blocked access to it.
In their complaint, the group writes, "In light of Kari Metz’s friendship with Kirk Johnson, we request that the Board undertake a thorough investigation of Mark Metz’s use of his prosecutorial discretion not to charge anyone with a crime regarding Prince’s death, despite Kirk Johnson’s obvious and blatant violations of the Controlled Substances Act in active collaboration with Dr. Mark Schulenberg, and possibly other doctors."
The Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board in Minnesota told The Blast they could not comment on any complaint that had been filed.
