Critics were divided on the film, which earned a 63% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences rated the film a bit more favorably, with a score of 83%. Even still, the movie failed to make its mark, as Gaga and Driver were both denied an Academy Award nomination for their respective roles.

Even still, everyone has been heaping praise on the former “Star Wars” actor for his portrayal of Maurizio Gucci.

Ridley Scott Calls Adam Driver 'The Best In The Business'

Although “House of Gucci” is not available for streaming just yet, it still is available for purchase or rental through video-on-demand. One of the clips features how Driver approached his role as the head of the Gucci fashion empire. In the clip, director Ridley Scott, writer Roberto Bentivegna, and his costars praised Driver’s performance in the film.

“Adam Driver is a rare breed,” Scott said. “He’s one of the best in the business right now.”

“He brings a dimension to the film that lifts it and grounds it at the same time,” Pacino added. “It’s nuanced. Very nuanced.”

“Maurizio Gucci is heir to the Gucci empire,” Driver continued. “His mother died very young and his father was very controlling so all of his decisions were filtered to his father. He starts the movie aware of what’s toxic about being a Gucci but is seduced by power and pride.”

“I think Adam and Gaga could really go from an explosive take to a much more subtle take and really feel the scene as it was happening,” said writer Roberto Bentivegna. “So to watch them together was really quite amazing.”

“I just had the most wonderful time creating with him what was a love story,” Gaga added.

For his part, Driver actually couldn’t get off the “House of Gucci” set fast enough!

As The Blast previously reported, Driver likes a lot of versatility in his roles!

“I went to Juilliard, and they train you to be a repertory theater actor — Chekhov in the morning, Arthur Miller at night,” he explained. “I like that discipline. In some ways, ‘House of Gucci’ was the most difficult.”

He went on to explain that he is a very different person than the character he was asked to portray.

“I do not live in the same world as Maurizio Gucci,” he explained. “The way he picks up things that are valuable and discards them, the way he is the most elegant man—those qualities were interesting to think about. But after 14 hours a day of being a Gucci, I was ready for it to be over.”

“In general, I leave jobs immediately,” he added. “I haven’t been to a wrap party since ‘Girls.’ I just want to get the character out of my system and go home.”

Driver also explained that it was a process to get into the character of Maurizio Gucci because little elements to his character, like his style of dress, were so important.

“Finding those glasses was a long process,” Driver explained. “The costume was important. And the walk—the Gucci walk. There were generations of Gucci in that walk. He is a man who goes from rejecting the world he knows, to reclaim his sense of self, to falling in love with a world that is toxic. He is a victim of timing.”

Although “House of Gucci” was described by critics as a collapsing “House of Cards,” Driver had nothing but high praise for director Ridley Scott.

“I f—ing love him,” Driver gushes. “He uses four cameras at a minimum, and it’s like theater-in-the-round. He draws his own storyboards, and the productions move very fast. He doesn’t lose momentum over a meaningless detail.”
