Peyton Manning went the extra mile to ensure his adorable new fur baby felt comfortable in Denver.
The Blast spoke with Animal Rescue Fund of Mississippi, who tells us Manning and his kids fell head over heels for a long-haired chihuahua mix. Within a day of meeting the young pup, the retired NFL star was on a plane taking her back to Colorado.
In order to help the puppy adapt to her new location, we're told Peyton called ahead and had a bed, as well as dog food, waiting at his family home.
The adoption went down earlier this week ... the former quarterback was away at their cabin in Mississippi when his kids noticed a neighbor holding the 8-10 weeks old puppy. Carolyn Boyles, who was fostering the dog, tells The Blast that it was "love at first sight" for the Manning family.
Carolyn, who's also a board member at the shelter, says she named the dog Sunny, but the Mannings were looking for something a little more "girly." We're told Vivvie was thrown out, possibly an homage to Peyton's mom, Olivia. We hear Missi, short for Mississippi, was a suggestion too.
The Blast has learned the commitment to adopt didn't happen without a Manning family meeting, although it wasn't a hard decision to make. They decided to adopt and got approved that same day. But when Peyton Manning saw how much the dog meant to its foster family, he let the pup stay with them one last night.
The Mannings, along with their new puppy, were on a plane heading back to Denver the next morning.
