Paul Marciano Preached Against Sexual Assault In Speech at Guess Event

Guess founder Paul Marciano declared “sexy is never an invitation or excuse for rape or violence” during the fashion empire’s event to spread awareness and combat sexual assault.

Marciano was speaking in 2015 at Guess’ headquarters for a company event regarding Denim Day.  The event was also attended by LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and L.A. District Attorney Jackie Lacey.  Denim Day is recognized on April 22 and encourages people to wear denim in order to raise awareness for rape and sexual assault.

Speaking on sexual violence, Marciano called it a “critical issue” saying, “we always promoted an image of a Guess model as sexy but confident, but sexy is never ever an invitation or excuse for rape or violence.” He proclaimed that it was “his mission” for Guess to be at the center of Denim Day for years to come.

Guess is not only the official sponsor of Denim Day, but the company boasts “The Guess Foundation is privileged to provide victims with hotline crisis counseling, therapy sessions with licensed counselors, sexual abuse response teams to accompany rape survivors to hospitals and high school educational series on teen dating and violence prevention. In addition, volunteer training sessions will be given to crisis intervention specialists and legal advocacy services will be given to survivors.”

The Blast broke the story, Marciano has been accused of a history of sexual assault by two models and also accused of sexual misconduct by supermodel Kate Upton.  One of the models accusing Marciano of assault has also accused Guess of being complicit and facilitating his pattern of abuse.
