Papa John’s Founder Sues Pizza Chain

Papa John is not going quietly.

John Schnatter, the founder of Papa John’s who was ousted from the company after allegedly using the N-word during a media training call, is suing the company to gain access to documents related to the investigation into the incident.

Schnatter’s attorney released a statement on Thursday, saying, “Mr. Schnatter’s attorneys are seeking to inspect Company documents because of the unexplained and heavy-handed way in which the Company has treated him since the publication of a story that falsely accused him of using a racial slur.”

According to CNBC, which obtained a copy of the lawsuit, Schnatter claims the company “either the purportedly independent directors acted without adequate information … or [they] planned this coup in advance with the assistance of the Company’s advisor.”

Schnatter resigned as chairman of the company’s board after the controversy became national news. He later would say he regretted the decision to step down.
