A location scout for the Netflix hit show “Narcos” was found riddled with bullet holes after he went out looking for places to shoot the fourth season.

Carlos Muñoz Portal was shot to death this past Monday in a very dangerous part of central Mexico. Portal was a veteran location scout who worked for a Mexican based production company.

Portal was found near Hidalgo state, a particularly violent region where hundreds of other murders are regularly reported.

Netflix issued a statement, obtained by Variety, “We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”

The show, which has chronicled the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, had primarily been shot in Colombia.  Season three just premiered this month.

As you would expect, local authorities are having trouble tracking down those responsible for Portal’s death.
