7:40 PM PT -- Madsen's attorney tells The Blast, "Michael Madsen is very busy doing films in Europe. He appreciates his fans interest in his well being."
He adds, "... it’s stressful being a celebrity, dealing with the fact that being famous and having money does not bring happiness presents very difficult challenges that are often dealt with through self medication. Michael has a lot of insight into his situation and is going to take this matter very seriously. He has a loving family that are supportive of him."
Michael Madsen was officially charged with misdemeanor DUI after he crashed his car into a pole last month.
Since Madsen already has one DUI on his record, he was charged with one count each of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol within 10 years of another DUI offense and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content within 10 years of another DUI offense.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 364 days in jail.
He will be arraigned next month.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Madsen was involved in a single car accident on March 24 in Malibu at around 8:00 PM. When officers arrived on the scene, Madsen showed signs of impairment, so he was arrested.
Madsen’s attorney, Perry Wander, told The Blast at the time of the arrest, “We are waiting for the blood report but we suspect that his accident was caused by side effects to medication that he was taking under a doctor’s care.”
