Melania Trump is recovering today at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland from a kidney procedure, The White House announced today.
The Office of the First Lady released a statement explaining that Mrs. Trump's procedure for a "benign" kidney condition was successful. MSNBC is reporting that FLOTUS is in good spirits and the President will be visiting her at the hospital later today.
"This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful, and there were no complications. Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere," the statement read.
According to CNN, Trump is the first First Lady to undergo a serious procedure while in the White House since Nancy Regan had a mastectomy in 1987.
President Donald Trump offered up an update on Melania's status on Monday afternoon, tweeting, "Heading over to Walter Reed Medical Center to see our great First Lady, Melania. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!"
