A photographer who claims he took Meghan Markle's middle and high school yearbook photos is now suing a company who he alleges has been selling his pics to the media without his permission.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, John Dlugolecki says he owns the copyright on the yearbook photos taken of Markle when she attended Immaculate Heart Middle and High School located in Los Angeles, CA.
Dlugolecki claims a company called Seth Poppel Yearbook Library is "in the business of collecting school yearbooks and then exploiting for profit photographs contained in them without seeking or obtaining authorization to do so from the copyright owners of those photographs."
In his lawsuit, Dlugolecki claims Poppel exploited his photos "without seeking or obtaining any copyright authorization to do so." He says the company goes around trying to license the photos to media outlets, falsely representing they own the pics.
In addition to Poppel, Dlugolecki is suing several media outlets — including ABC for using them on "20/20" and "Nightline" — for copyright infringement.
Dlugolecki is seeking unspecified damages.
The Blast reached out to Poppel for comment — so far, no word back.
