Matt Damon‘s father, Kent, passed away earlier this month after a long battle with cancer. He was 74.
Damon’s publicist told The Boston Globe that the elder Damon died on December 14. He had suffered from multiple myeloma, a rare blood disease, and his condition had taken a turn for the worse in recent months.
“It’s been a slow, unfolding, my dad’s sick, so that’s been a process we’re going through,” Damon told “Extra” just a few days before his father passed. “We’ll take any prayers you got, so throw ’em up there.”
Damon skipped a December 19 screening of his new film, “Downsizing.” At the time, his rep said he was “dealing with an ongoing family matter.”
