The “Empire” co-creator said the “past couple of weeks have been a freakin’ rollercoaster,” and explained that his “Empire” cast has “experienced pain and anger … sadness … frustration.”
Daniels admits that he still doesn’t really know how to handle the entire situation, but wants to make sure that fans don’t get mixed signals when it comes to reality and his shows on FOX.
“This is not what the show was made for,” he said, adding that the show “Was made to bring America together, to talk about the atrocities in the streets.”
Daniels never mentions Smollett by name, but his message regarding the embattled actor is crystal clear. Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, has been written off the last episodes of the season, and no announcement has been made on his future with the show. However, he was featured in Wednesday’s episode, but Daniels made sure to mention that it was taped before “the incident.”
Smollett appeared in a Chicago courtroom last week and entered a not guilty plea for the 16 criminal counts he’s currently facing.
