Kim Kardashian Apologizes After Receiving Backlash for Saying Friends Were ‘Retarded’

UPDATE

10:35 AM PT: Kim Kardashian has apologized for the offensive comment, telling The Blast, “I want to apologize for what I said in a recent video post that is inappropriate and insensitive to the special needs community. I try to learn from my mistakes and this is one of those times.”

She added, “Please know that my intention is always pure, and in this case, it was a mistake. I’m sorry.”

Kim Kardashian is getting some major post-Halloween heat after audibly dropping a slur that her fans immediately picked up on.

The reality star was attending her sister Kendall Jenner‘s big Halloween party Wednesday night, and arrived with BFF Jonathan Cheban. The two dressed as Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee, wearing an outfit the then-couple wore to the 1999 VMAs, over 20 years ago.

Kardashian was upset that her friends could not identify the costume, and began complaining that everyone at the party was too young. When her former assistant, Stephanie, agreed that it was crazy nobody could recognize the outfit, Kim exclaimed, “Ya, retarded!”

The video remained active on her Instagram story at the time, and fans immediately began roasting the reality star. “That was a really unnecessary use of the word retarded. I think we should all know & do better by now,” one fan tweeted at Kim.

Another wrote, “Sooo Kim Kardashian gets to call people retarded for not knowing wtf she was supposed to be for Halloween? Interesting, how kind and totally not cruel, am i right?”

It was also pointed out on social media that Kim’s sister, Khloé, apologized back in July for dropping the “R” word. Khloé vowed to learn from the incident, and was applauded for the way she handled the situation.

Kim has not yet addressed her use of the word or backlash from the fans, but the video has since been removed from her IG story.
