Kim Jong-hyun — a Korean pop singer from the band SHINee — died on Monday, according to multiple reports. He was 27.
The singer was reportedly found unconscious on Monday in an apartment in Seoul. According to the BBC, police are saying suicide will be investigated as a possible cause of death.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, authorities believe Jonghyun (as he was commonly referred as) died from inhaling toxic fumes — police discovered coal briquettes burning on a frying pan at the apartment.
The Korea Herald reported Jong-Hyun sent his sister a number of text messages before he died, which included words such as "last goodbye."
SHINee was formed in 2008 and released six albums in Korea and five in Japan. Jonghyun launched a solo career in 2015.
