Katy Perry Wants to Keep Her Testimony Sealed in Kesha and Dr. Luke’s Legal Battle

Katy Perry is asking a judge to seal the testimony she gave in the ongoing Kesha and Dr. Luke legal battle because the singer believes that if it were made available to the public, it could harm her career.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Perry claims that while she cooperated and provided deposition testimony as part of discovery, “her testimony (certainly at this stage) appears to be, at most, tangential to the case.”

Perry says that “no aspect of her deposition transcript” has been relevant to the case thus far.

Earlier this month, she says Dr. Luke’s lawyers informed her that her 46-page deposition transcript — which was taken in 2017 — was at risk of being unsealed this week. She is filing docs demanding the court not unseal her testimony because of her “high-profile status as an artist, advocate and role model.”

She says she is vulnerable to “gossip column” frenzy aimed at “exaggerating salacious matters having little to nothing to do with the merits – whatever they may be – of the substantive, material issues in this case.”

Perry says the testimony obviously could unfairly affect and even cause “significant harm” to her “career and reputation” and is pleading for the judge to keep it sealed from the public.

The judge has yet to rule.
