Jussie Smollett will have to shelve his acceptance speech, because he already lost out on an anticipated NAACP Image Award.
Smollett lost in his category for Best Supporting Actor on Friday night during an untelevised portion of the awards show.
“Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams ended up snagging the honor, and Smollett ended up not even attending the annual dinner.
As we reported, Smollett flew out of Chicago after he felt public officials, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, were conducting a smear campaign against him.
It was up in the air whether the “Empire” star would attend the NAACP awards show, and he ultimately decided to skip the event.
It’s unclear what will happen to Smollett’s character on the FOX show, as he has been written out of the final episodes of the current season.
The televised portion of the awards show, hosted by Anthony Anderson, will take place Saturday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
