Brother in Jussie Smollett Case Participates in Consensual Mutual Combat

Abel Osundairo — one of the two brothers at the center of the Jussie Smollett scandal — beat up a guy last night (for real this time) and emerged victorious.

With his brother Ola in attendance, Abel won his Golden Gloves boxing match in Cicero (a suburb of Chicago) for the Golden Gloves semifinals, reports Charlie De Mar of CBS Chicago.

De Mar says he tried to ask about the Smollett case but Ola responded, “We can’t talk about that right now.”

“They worked with Jesse, they had known him, they were friends with him,” the attorney for the brothers, Gloria Schmidt, told George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America” earlier this month. “This was someone who the brothers thought could help their career. Obviously, Mr. Smollett has connections, he had a good position with Fox, so this was someone that they had trusted to consider their best interests.”

The “Empire” star is accused of lying to police and staging the attack against him on January 29. He claimed two men came after him and screamed racist and homophobic slurs at him. He also claimed bleach was thrown on him and a noose.

Jussie Smollett was eventually arrested and released on $100,000 bail.

His attorney, Mark Geragos, said of the charges, “The fact of an indictment is not unexpected. We knew that there is no way they would expose their evidence to a public airing and subject their witnesses to cross-examination.”

Smollett is due in court again on April 17.
