John Schneider is competing for more than just the mirrorball trophy during his run on "Dancing With the Stars," because there's a good chance his winnings will be used to pay off his outstanding debt to his ex-wife.
Sources familiar with the situation tell The Blast Elvira Schneider's legal team recently obtained documents from SAG that allegedly show the former "Dukes of Hazard" star made over $1 million through various projects last year alone. We're told a wage garnishment order was issued by the court, allowing Schneider's income, specifically what he's currently making on "DWTS," to help pay off delinquent alimony owed to his ex.
As we previously reported, John Schneider was found guilty of contempt earlier this year for failing to pay $185,000 in back spousal support. Schneider begged the court for forgiveness and claimed financial hardship in an effort to avoid jail time.
It didn’t work and Schneider was ordered to serve three days but only ended up behind bars for a few hours.
Schneider and partner Emma Slater barely squeaked by the third week of eliminations on the ABC dancing competition, and the good news for the star is if he keeps waltzing to victory, he could pay off the entire amount owed to Elvira.
In the past, stars on "DWTS" make around $100,000 to appear on the network show, and then earn additional cash for each week they survive. If Schneider wins the trophy, he could potentially be looking at around $350,000, if he's on the pay scale of past participants.
Back in 2016, Schneider was ordered to pay $18,000 per month in temporary spousal support, based on his income, to Elvira while the two worked out a divorce settlement. They have yet to settle up, and sources close to the former couple tell The Blast the star has been incredibly difficult throughout the ongoing negotiations.
Bo Duke better get to work on that Tango.
