Jenna Fischer is standing with students at DePauw University who protested during her speaking engagement this week and vowed to donate her entire appearance fee to charitable causes.

The “Office” star posted an open letter on social media today, explaining that her recent book signing and Q&A at the Indiana school was interrupted by student protesters who were upset about recent hateful incidents on campus. The incidents “included racial, homophobic, anti-Semitic slurs and hostilities.”

In the letter Fischer posted on Instagram, she wrote that she could “feel the pain, sadness, and fear coming from these students.” The actress is backing the student’s cries for a safer campus and said “these students need to be heard and they need change.”

In response to the protestors, Fischer is donating the money she received from the University to attend the event. She will make equal donations to the NAACP, The Anti-Defamation League, and the Trevor Project.
