Janelle Monáe got very personal this week in an interview and opened up about her sexuality, revealing she's pansexual.
The singer sat down with Rolling Stone for their cover story and spoke publicly about her sexual orientation while wearing a spacesuit (because that's just how she rolls.)
"Being a queer black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women – I consider myself to be a free-a** motherf**ker," she told RS.
The actress explained that she initially identified as bisexual but then discovered pansexuality and felt like she identified more with that.
She said in her interview that "later I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am."
FYI, pansexuality is like the circle time of sexual orientations ... everyone is welcome at the party. Pansexuals can be sexually attracted to all forms of biological sex or gender identity (women, men, transgender, intersex, gender fluid etc.) And for those who are still confused, just because you can be attracted to any sexuality or gender identity doesn't mean you are attracted to everyone. Get it? Good.
Janelle Monáe has recently crossed over from her musical lane into the acting world and made quite a splash, appearing in Oscar-winning films like "Moonlight." Her latest album, "Dirty Computer," is out now and climbing the charts. Oh, and she's a Covergirl model.
Maybe we should all take a page out of Monáe's book and be living life like a "free-a** a motherf**ker."
