Hoda Kotb Replaces Matt Lauer on ‘Today’

Pass the white wine — Hoda Kotb has officially been named as the new co-anchor of  “Today.”

Kotb will sit alongside Savannah Guthrie, telling PEOPLE about their relationship, “We’re sort of like sisters, and everybody wants a sister.”

She will take the seat left open by Matt Lauer after he was fired for having an inappropriate sexual relationship. After the news broke, several reports surfaced with allegations of sexual misconduct.

“That morning was so hard, but Hoda and I were in it together,” Guthrie told PEOPLE about the day the Lauer news broke. “We are family, and families do go through hard times, and when that happens in good families, you just get closer.”

Kotb will continue to anchor the show’s 10:00 AM hour alongside Kathy Lee Gifford for the time being.
