NY Attorney General Sues Harvey Weinstein: 'Vicious and Exploitative Mistreatment of Employees'

By TheBlast Staff

The New York Attorney General just violated the "Sunday truce" and brought the hammer down on Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company with a blazing lawsuit alleging a gender-based hostile work environment, a pattern of sexual harassment and routine misuse of corporate resources for unlawful ends.

Days before the company was rumored to be going on sale, AG Eric Schneiderman filed the lawsuit Sunday afternoon after his office completed a four month investigation into Weinstein and TWC following multiple accusations came to light last year.

Scheiderman said, "As alleged in our complaint, The Weinstein Company repeatedly broke New York law by failing to protect its employees from pervasive sexual harassment, intimidation, and discrimination."

Clearly seeing the lucrative sale that TWC could fetch, even after the dark mark left by Weinstein, Schneiderman said "Any sale of The Weinstein Company must ensure that victims will be compensated, employees will be protected going forward, and that neither perpetrators nor enablers will be unjustly enriched. Every New Yorker has a right to a workplace free of sexual harassment, intimidation, and fear."

The AG also accuses that Weinstein made death threats to employees, telling them "I will kill you," "I will kill your family," and that the executives at TWC were made aware of the numerous horrible allegations against the produce and did nothing.

The documents also specifically accuse Weinstein's older brother, Bob, of "allowing HW to create a hostile work environment and engage in sexual misconduct."

Schneiderman makes it clear that his investigation into Weinstein and TWC is ongoing, but wants to eliminate the possibility of "perpetrators or enablers of the misconduct to see a windfall, and allow top officials at TWC who share responsibility for the misconduct to serve in executive positions of the new entity."

Still, perhaps the most impressive thing by Schneiderman, he filed the documents on a Sunday morning ... cold blooded.
