Harvey Weinstein Not Under Criminal Investigation in Utah

Rose McGowan accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, and even though multiple cities have launched criminal investigations into allegations of sexual assault by the producer … Utah is not one of them.

Officials at the Park City Police Department and Summit County Sheriff both tell The Blast they have no current investigations on the disgraced movie mogul.  They also noted there was nothing in the system for prior investigations on him.

The Office of the Park City Attorney referred us to the Summit County Attorney, who confirmed they also have nothing going on with Weinstein, nor was anything in their records.

McGowan’s claim of rape in 1997 would have already passed the statute of limitations, but THR reported last week that Utah has an interesting practice of “stopping the clock” when an alleged suspect leaves the state, which would have extended the possibility of a prosecution.  However, the site mentions there would be many legal hurdles to prosecuting Weinstein, which would also require McGowan filing a complaint.

Criminal investigations in Los Angeles, New York, and London have been launched over other allegations of sexual assault by Weinstein.

He denies all claims of sexual assault.
