Allred’s daughter is one of the lawyers representing and advising Weinstein, whose history of alleged misconduct was chronicled in an article on Thursday in the New York Times.
In a statement to The Blast, Allred says, “Had I been asked by Mr. Weinstein to represent him, I would have declined, because I do not represent individuals accused of sexual harassment. I only represent those who allege that they are victims of sexual harassment.”
Allred added, “While I would not represent Mr. Weinstein, I would consider representing anyone who accused Mr. Weinstein of sexual harassment, even if it meant that my daughter was the opposing counsel. This should not be interpreted as a criticism of my daughter. She has the right to decide who she represents and I will never second guess her decisions.”
Weinstein has said he plans to sue the Times over the article.
