The president woke up on Thursday morning and fired up the Twitter machine, ranting about Mexico, CNN, MSNBC, Rep. Adam Schiff and the decision by prosecutors to drop charges against the "Empire" star.
"FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago," Trump tweeted. "It is an embarrassment to our Nation!"
Late Wednesday night, several outlets reported that the FBI had launched a probe into why the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office dropped the case.
As The Blast previously reported, Jussie Smollett was never worried about the case going trial because he was always “confident” he would emerge victorious.
Sources close to Smollett tell The Blast that the “Empire” star was never considering a plea deal in the case. We’re told Smollett was always adamant in his belief that all charges against him should be dropped.
Prosecutors in Chicago surprised everyone on Tuesday when they dropped all charges against the “Empire” star over allegations he lied to police in faking an alleged hate crime against himself.
The Office of Cook County State’s Attorney released a statement saying, “After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.”
Smollett spoke to the media after the charges were dropped and maintained that he has been telling the truth about his attack since the beginning. He, “I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I have been accused of.”
