The man who was arrested last week at Cher's mansion has been hit with a slew of new drug and weapons charges, including possession of ammunition designed to penetrate armor.
According to court records, Donovan Ruiz was charged with possession of narcotics for sale, two counts of sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of methamphetamines, and possession of a baton.
All seven of those charges are felonies.
Ruiz was also hit with six enhancement charges related to possession of a firearm.
In addition, the Ventura County District Attorney charged Ruiz with seven other charges related to an August arrest: possession of handgun ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or armor, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a baton, possession of methamphetamines for sale, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana for the purpose of sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ruiz will be represented by a public defender in the case and has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
All of the new charges are unrelated to Ruiz's alleged involvement in the sale of fentanyl.
Cops allege that fentanyl sold by Ruiz was consumed by a victim in Thousand Oaks, who later died. Last Thursday, when the search warrant was served at Cher's Malibu mansion, detectives seized evidence related to Ruiz's selling of the "illegal controlled substances."
Sources close to Ruiz tell The Blast he is a "good person" who would "never sell drugs that would kill someone."
His bond has been set at $90,000 and he is still in custody.
Ruiz is due in court on Monday.
