When Zion Williamson heads to New Orleans he won’t be hungry, because the city is already celebrating his expected arrival with a gigantic box of wings, biscuits and fries.
Popeyes announced the Wingspan Box on Wednesday morning in honor of Williamson more than likely getting picked up by the New Orleans Pelicans with their #1 pick in the NBA Draft.
The Wingspan Box is 6 ft 10 in long — Williamson’s actual wingspan — and comes packed with 77 boneless wings, 11 biscuits and 11 servings of fries.
The grub ain’t cheap, as the entire box will be sold for $74.69 … and doesn’t come with any antacid.
Popeye’s doesn’t mention the dominating basketball star by name, but says in a release, “There’s been a lot of speculation and buzz around New Orleans and their likelihood to bring home a big name, with a wingspan of 6 feet and 10 inches, as their #1 draft pick.”
They claim the Wingspan Box was ‘dreamed up to’ put that into perspective and celebrate New Orleans’ top spot in the draft.”
Unfortunately, the huge promotion is only going on for one day, Thursday, the same day as the NBA Draft. It’s also only available at one special location, downtown New Orleans at 621 Canal St.
That specific Popeyes location is known for outrageous chicken stunts, as they also sold a basket of “24 Karat Champagne Wings” last year in honor of the chain’s 3000th store.
The entire promotion is also kind of ironic, because there’s no way the New Orleans Pelicans want their star athlete anywhere near a 6ft box of Popeyes chicken moments after they sign him to a multi-million dollar contract.
