Vince Vaughn was able to escape DUI charges after pleading down to a lesser charge of reckless driving.

According to court records, the "Couples Retreat" star plead no contest to wet reckless driving ... which is basically a downgraded DUI charge.

Getting hit with a "wet reckless" charge is a big win for Vaughn, who was facing serious charges after his arrest last June in Manhattan Beach.

At the time, Vaughn was stopped at a DUI checkpoint and became combative with officers when asked to get out of his car for a sobriety check.

As part of his downgraded charge, Vaughn will have to pay fines, be on probation for three years and take an alcohol education course.

Case dismissed.
