Vanessa Bryant is still reeling from the devastating loss of her husband and 13-year-old daughter, but she’s moving on and being strong for her other children. Kobe Bryant‘s widow shared an adorable video of her youngest child with the late Lakers star on Saturday showing their 7-month-old daughter, Capri, smiling sweetly while her grieving mom laughed and encouraged her in the background. In the video, the tiny tot is seen pulling herself up with the help of her aunt and a little bit of assistance from the couch.
Kobe Bryant’s baby appears to have the determination of her daddy and Vanessa is her biggest cheerleader. “Do this again. Try it again, mama,” Vanessa Bryant is heard telling Capri. After their sweet baby girl pulled herself up again, her mom continued to encourage her smiling daughter by saying, “Good job, Koko. Good girl, Mambacita.” Of course, the word “Mamacita” was near and dear to Kobe Bryant’s heart because it was the nickname he gave to their teenage daughter, Gigi, who was his basketball prodigy. The star even filed to trademark the name one month before his death. Sadly, Gigi was with her father in the helicopter when it crashed with 7 others on board. There were no survivors.
While Vanessa Bryant seems in good spirits in the video, her voice is a little shaky when she uses Gigi’s nickname. Just like Kobe Bryant, Vanessa uses his famous “mamba mentality” to coax Capri to “do it again.” Calling the baby “sunshine,” the video is both happy and heartbreaking considering the fact their family dynamic was changed in a blink of an eye. Perhaps even more heartbreaking is the tearful caption that Vanessa Bryant paired with the video. Comparing Capri to her older sister Gigi, Kobe’s wife wrote, “My Koko Bean. She looks just like my Gigi.”
Just one day ago, Vanessa Bryant announced the memorial which will take place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 24. Along with Kobe Bryant and Gigi, the 7 others who lost their lives on the helicopter will be honored too. The date of the memorial is significant because February is the second month of the year and two was Gigi’s jersey number. Of course, 24 was Kobe’s. Gigi’s basketball team recently held an emotional ceremony where they retired the young superstar’s number and celebrated her life.
An investigation into the crash is underway and the preliminary findings showed the deadly helicopter crash was not caused by engine failure, this according to NTBS investigators. The report also stated the helicopter was destroyed by “impact forces and fire.” New photos of the helicopter moments before impact show the small aircraft “disappearing into the clouds” before the pilot lost visibility and crashed into the hillside. Days after the devastating crash, Vanessa Bryant posted an emotional tribute to her husband and daughter. Kobe Bryant was 41 years old.
