Vanessa Bryant has decided to change the name of husband Kobe’s foundation after losing both of them a tragic helicopter crash, and the explanation is simple, “there is no #24 without #2.”
Kobe’s wife took to Instagram to share the news, along with posting a picture of the new logo that the foundation will use going forward.
“Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. Our mission remains the same – and stronger than ever – to provide opportunities to young people through sports,” the message began.
She continued, “Thank you all for the outpouring of support and your kind donations to date as we carry forth Kobe and Gigi’s legacy.. We hope to empower young athletes in a world they left us all to help shape. #Mamba #Mambacita.”
As we reported, Kobe and his daughter were laid to rest in a private ceremony with family and friends in Orange County. Both father and daughter were buried at Pacific View in Corona Del Mar, California near the families home.
Fans of Vanessa’s sent heartwarming messages on Instagram in reaction to the name change, even some who have been directly affected by the work of Kobe and Gigi.
“Thank you, Vanessa! My daughter plays for the Mamba and Mambacita league in Whittier, CA. The season is just starting and she said she wants to be just like Gigi. Your husband was a true inspiration to her. I remember feeling so proud when I’d walk into her room and she’d be on her iPad, watching Kobe highlights! She was 4, and already knew he was amazing!” one fan posted.
Another added, “I’m thinking about you Vanessa even if we’ve never met I feel your pain like we are sisters and I cry here and there just thinking that your besties left the world like that, but I pray to god to walk you through this nightmare and make you stronger.”
Vanessa has been updating Lakers fans and the public through her now public Instagram page and many can agree with this person in saying, “You are truly amazing—A pillar of strength and an inspiration to all.”
