There was little doubt that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez could pull off a Super Bowl halftime show, but they really brought the heat. Both women pulled off incredible performances, and while there were some people who were offended by the sensuality of the performances (it’s the Super Bowl halftime show, it’s always a little provocative), most of social media was in full blown meltdown mode over how great the show was.
It’s safe to say that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez ate it for breakfast.

Shakira opened the show with hits like “Whenever, Wherever,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” and “I Like It,” and Twitter was reborn at this reminder of her greatness.
“shakira brought so many memories back , nostalgia hit she was 99.99% of my childhood”
“Watched the half time show with Shakira and J Lo and I feel very strongly that I might be pregnant now.”
“#SuperBowl guys we survived maroon 5 performance so we could have shakira and jlo , we did it ,latinas stay winning”
“Shakira is trending more than the SuperBowl #SuperBowl”

Jennifer Lopez also reminded viewers why she is one of the all time great divas, breaking out “Jenny From The Block,” “Waiting For Tonight,” and “Let’s Get Loud” with her 11-year-old daughter. Lopez was recently (unjustly) snubbed for an Oscar nomination for Hustlers, and people were quick to point out that her performance during the halftime show was a reminder of why that was a bad call.
“J. Lo saying ‘f*ck your Oscar nomination.'”
“JLO singing on stage with her daughter just made me start crying? SPECIAL MOM AND DAUGHTER MOMENTS AND MEMORIES ❤️❤️❤️”
“@JLo did not come to play. #SuperBowl #PepsiHalftime”
Twitter also couldn’t help but make some digs at last year’s headliner, Maroon 5, who put on a less than stellar show.
“Men should NEVER be allowed to headline the #PepsiHalftime show ever again. JLo and Shakira ended the streak of declining halftime shows after Justin and Maroon 5 bombed theirs”
“maroon 5 PLEASE take notes on how to do a superbowl half time show #Shakira #PepsiHalftime #SuperBowl”
“I’m glad Miami got to have a Latinx inspired #SuperBowl halftime show. Now…can someone please explain to me why Atlanta didn’t get to do a hip hop inspried halftime show? Instead we got Maroon 5. Bitter, party of 1.”
