Supermodel Gisele Bündchen and football player Tom Brady seem like the ultimate couple in every way. Brady, a quarterback, is considered by the NFL to be one of the best football players ever, while Bündchen’s face and name as a model and personality are easily recognizable.
But things weren’t always so rosy for the two of them, especially at the beginning of the relationship, as Cheatsheet writes.
In fact, things were nearly over before they even had a chance to start.
Bundchen and Brady first met after being set up on a date by a friend. At the time, both were coming out of serious relationships.
Bündchen had been dating Leonardo DiCaprio for about five years before they broke up in 2005, and Brady was ending a relationship with Bridget Moynahan, who’s known from the show “Blue Bloods.”
But despite being fresh out of an old relationship, Bündchen told Vanity Fair that the attraction to Brady was immediate.
“I knew right away [that it was love] –the first time I saw him,” she said.
She also recalled his “beautiful, charismatic smile” and mentioned that they talked for three hours that day.
“I had to go home for Christmas, but I didn’t want to leave. You know that feeling of, like, you can’t get enough? From the first day we met, we’ve never spent one day without speaking to each other.”
That sounds like some pretty positive signs that things were going well.
But soon after, they both found out that Moynahan was carrying Brady’s baby, and she was already three months pregnant. No surprise that that changed things just a bit.
Obviously, it was a shock, and Gisele had some thinking to do.
“In the beginning you’re living this romantic fantasy; you’re thinking, this can’t be true, it’s so good. And then, whoops — wake-up call! We were dating two and a half months when he found out, and it was a very challenging situation. Obviously, in the beginning, it’s not the ideal thing.”
“You question at times–‘Should I stay here? Maybe you should work this out.’ ”
Bundchen spoke to CBS This Morning in 2015 about being torn in the decision.
She says that’s when she entertained the idea of leaving the relationship.
“I didn’t know what to do. It was kind of one of those moments of like, ‘Do I just run away?’ I think it was very challenging for everyone involved.”
Of course they stayed together. In 2007, Moynahan and Brady had a son, John, and in 2009, Brady and Bündchen got married. They have two kids of their own, Benjamin and Vivian. Bündchen jokes that John is her “bonus child.”
So it seems she ultimately made the right decision to stick it out with the man she loved, proving that not all relationships have to be picture-perfect to be the right fit.
