A Controversial Figure

Everyone is obsessed with Netflix's Tiger King and the man at the center of the wild docuseries, Joe Exotic. Exotic, who is currently serving 22 years in prison, has proven to be a controversial figure. Despite the murder for hire charges and the animal abuse, his husband Dillon Passage claims that Exotic is "a really good guy."

"He's a really good guy. And, um, you know, he may have made some sketchy decisions. And I know he regrets them. But his intentions are really good at heart. And he would do anything to help anybody in need."

However, Exotic's niece Chealsi Putman told The Daily Mail that "the real Joe Exotic" is "100 times worse" than he's portrayed on the show.

Horrific Allegations

While Putman thinks that Exotic started out as a "good guy and genuinely cared for animals," greed quickly sent him down a dark path. Putman claims that Exotic froze dead tiger cubs to sell to taxidermists and possessed photos of people performing sex acts with animals from his zoos.

She told DailyMailTV that "there must have been at least 10” tiger cubs that Joe froze after they died, claiming that they were for “research” with Texas A&M University. Putman “never saw any evidence” to support Joe’s story and “believes he sold them to private individuals to get stuffed."

Terrible Animal Abuse

Putman continued, sharing stories about Joe's alleged animal abuse. The details are truly disturbing.

"I’ve personally witnessed Joe spray a tiger with a fire extinguisher, not out of a safety or for a life saving reason, but because the tiger didn’t react the way Joe had wanted it to. … He would either take cash under the table for the sale of the tiger [cub] or if someone sent a check, it would be made out to another person, or if the money was wired to a store, it would be in another person’s name. Joe always attempted to distance himself from any illegal activity, but he had no problem involving his employees in it."

There was also an incident with a family of monkeys when Joe wanted to sell the babies.

"A few years ago, at the zoo we had a monkey who just had a baby, Joe wanted to take the baby monkey away from its mother so he could sell it. The mother monkey naturally wouldn’t let Joe take the baby away from her so, he decided to ‘dart’ the mother monkey. He was going to shoot a tranquilizer dart into the mother monkey so he could take the newborn baby away from her. Joe shot one dart into the monkey, but after a few minutes the tranquilizer hadn’t worked, so he shot another dart into the mother, and another. He shot a total of five darts into the mother until she dozed off so he could pry the baby monkey away from its arms. I was disgusted by his actions, he’s lucky the mother monkey didn’t die."

Taking Advantage Of Family

Putman explains that she never saw videos of the alleged bestiality, she "just heard about them." She also claimed that Joe had a secret adult son and that he tried to trick his daughter in law into "some fraudulent activities with the zoo’s books and checking account."

Putman also alleges that Exotic stole from his own parents, Shirley and Frances Schreibvogel. She said:

"I don’t think he ever really cared for them. He saw them as pawns in his game, most of the bills, policies and loans for the zoo were in his parent’s name."

While fans of the show are clamoring from Exotic's release from prison, Putman is not one of them.

"If it [was] up to me, I would have sentenced him to life behind bars, he wouldn’t have ever seen the light of day."

When asked what she would like to say to Exotic now, Putman was rather succinct: "I hope you rot in hell."
