The Rock has just unveiled his superhero look for the highly-anticipated "Shazam!" spinoff, and while he admits he was never going to be Batman or Superman, he cannot way to play the role of antihero fan-favorite, Black Adam. The "Jumanji: The Next Level" star took to Instagram on Thursday and spoke a little bit about his childhood dreams and adult realizations.

"The Man in Black ⚡️ Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people. It all changed for me, when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time - SUPERMAN. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years into my fantasy, I realized that Superman was the hero, I could never be. I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart - I just liked to do things my way."

The Reveal

However, just because The Rock wasn't your traditional hero, doesn't mean he wasn't worthy of a cape ... which is exactly what he got.

"Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid - my superhero dreams have come true. I’m honored to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM. BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line. He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people - but he does it his way. Truth and justice - the BLACK ADAM way."

Who Is Black Adam?

In the DC Comics, Black Adam was a corrupted Egyptian who traveled to modern times and battled the likes of Superman and Shazam. The existence of him was hinted at in the 2019 Zachary Levi movie, but Black Adam was never revealed.

His superpowers seem perfect to be showcased by The Rock, as Black Adam has super strength, super speed, super stamina and superhuman amounts of inner strength. Unlike The Rock, the antihero can also fly, but the WWE Superstar can surely figure it out.

In preparation for the role, The Rock says:

"This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together."

Fans are stoked to see The Rock's foray into the superhero world and have taken to social media to sound off about the flick.

"Let’s hope that Black Adam isn’t just a straight up hero in this epic tale, along with a tone that strays away from the usual with Johnson," one fan commented.

Another predicted, "Black Adam in some comics is a fair man, hes no good nor evil. Yes he killed some innocent ppl to get what he wants but he does whats good for his ppl and his love one but Im sure they will tone him down with the evilness since its the rock."

The Black Adam movie is slated to hit theaters on December 22, 2021.
