"Teen Mom" star Jenelle Evans and David Eason are under investigation by child protection officials in North Carolina after receiving a complaint that the children in the home could be in danger.

Sources close to the situation tell The Blast a call was placed to the Columbus County Department of Social Services by a person who considers themselves an advocate against child abuse and exploitation.

We're told the complainant strongly believes the children at the "Teen Mom" star's home, including their 2-year-old daughter, Einsley, could develop PTSD, depression or other mental health illnesses from witnessing dangerous acts, like the killing of Evan's french bulldog, Nugget.

The child protective services division of the Columbus County Social Services jumps into action "in response to actual or suspected child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or exploitation."

We're told they took down the information from the complainant and advised they would follow up on the situation and allegations.

As we reported, Eason was seen brutally beating Nugget inside the home, and in front of the minor children, before taking the small dog outside for execution.

Sources close to the family tell us they are terrified for anyone who has to stay in the home with Eason, and believe anyone who was at home when Nugget was killed is too scared to tell officials the truth about what happened.

Our sources also questioned the actions of the Columbus County Sheriff's Office for only speaking to Eason during a welfare check after Nugget died, especially since he is the one who allegedly keeps everyone in line with constant fear.

After receiving multiple complaints, the local sheriffs did launch a joint investigation with animal control into the alleged abuse of the dog, but it's unclear if that investigation carries over to Eason's behavior towards everyone in the home.

Meanwhile, Eason's baby mama, Olivia Leedham, believes the other dog in the home should be removed before the "Teen Mom" star does something violent to the animal.

Jenelle has remained quiet regarding her feelings toward her husband, only saying that she's "devastated" over the loss of Nugget.

The reality star has hinted that she may seek a divorce, and has not been at home since her dog's death.
