Teddy Pendergrass' widow is accusing the late singer's children of dragging her in and out of court to try and cut her out of the will … and now she is suing them for damages for the emotional distress they caused.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Joan Pendergrass is suing Teddy’s son, Theodore Pendergrass II, and his daughters, La Donna Hollerway and Tishia Burnett.
Teddy passed away due to respiratory failure in 2010. His will left his entire estate to his wife Joan. However, his son Theodore tried to have the will invalidated by forging a will that stated the estate all went to him.
The court eventually ruled the will presented by Theodore was a fabrication.
"The illusion and fantasy created by Theodore, Jr. and propagated by his lawyers," the lawsuit says, "forced Mrs. Pendergrass to undergo years of turmoil and anguish as her relationship with her late husband was unmercifully scrutinized."
Joan says legal battle took roughly six years and $850,000 in legal fees. As a result, she says she has suffered humiliation, diminished reputation, emotional distress and anxiety.
She is suing Theodore, La Donna, Tishia and each lawyer who represented them in the court battles. The suit is seeking general and punitive damages.
