Famed NY Hip-Hop DJ Angie Martinez is reportedly set to undergo back surgery after suffering major injuries due to a “severe” car accident on Monday.
The star broke the news to her fans with an Instagram post. “I’ve always believed in angels and mine was with me the other morning,” Martinez wrote. “I was in a severe car accident and sustained a fractured lumbar and shattered vertebrae.”
Angie seemed to be in good spirits and expressed her gratitude that she is still alive and has a chance to recover.
Martinez continued, “I’m recovering and will be for some time, but I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to do that.”
Her statement makes it clear that she is not going to let this tragedy ruin her life and she let fans know that she will make the best of her situation despite it being very serious.
She continued her statement, “Wanted you all to hear it from me first and know that although this is a difficult time, I am in the best spirits possible and determined to be back and better than ever soo! God bless and I deeply appreciate all love & prayers.”
No other details of the accident have been released but fans and her Power 105.1 family have been sending love and keeping her in their prayers.
Her famous friends have also shown love to the long-time New York City DJ. Taraji P. Henson left a message of love in the comments section of her post. The star wrote, “GOD IS!!!” and included three praying hands emojis and three ruby red lips emojis.
La La Anthony left a more personal message to her personal friend. “Angie!!! Praying for u. GOD IS WORKING ALL THE TIME,” the star said, “Rest up. Take ur time & get well. We need you!❤️??love u Ang.”
While La La and Taraji made sure that Angie felt the love, Martinez’s friend Amber Sabathia, wife of newly retired Yankee CC Sabathia, is already looking toward the future.
“Currently planning Girls Trip! ?? You Got THIS!” Amber exclaimed.
Angie will need a lot of time to recover which is unfortunate timing because her TV series “Untold Stories of Hip-Hop” premiered just a few weeks ago on WeTV. Since the premiere, she has been doing a lot of press to promote her show.
Angie’s interview with Cardi B recently made headlines because the “Money” rapper described her #MeToo moment. The rapper sat down with Martinez and detailed her experience being sexually assaulted during a magazine shoot. After the interview aired, Cardi lashed out at fans who claimed she made the whole story up.
Angie’s afternoon radio show has consistently been ranked #1 with more young listeners than any other radio program in the country. She has earned the nickname of “The Voice of New York.” She began working in radio at the age of 16 and quickly became the popular DJ Funkmaster Flex’s protege. The radio host also had roles in several movies including the cult classic “Paid In Full.”
Rest up and best wishes for your recovery, Angie.
