Sofia Richie shared a quote from Nelson Mandela in reaction to the murder of George Floyd.
In the statement, posted on Instagram, Richie turned to the great former leader of South Africa to explain to her feelings at what is going on in this country at the moment.
Sofia shared with her six and a half million Instagram followers a picture with this quote, “No one person is born hating another because of the colour of his skin, his background or his religion. People learn to hate and if learn to hate they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
The passage is from Mandela’s 1994 autobiography, ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ and profiles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison.
Sofia also posted a black and white picture with the message, “To our Black brothers and sisters. We see you, we hear you and we stand with you. #BlackLivesMatter”
Sofia has made headlines recently for her split with Scott Disick, who took off to Utah during Memorial Day with the mother of his children, Kourtney Kardashian.
Fans of the model flooded the comment section of her post with messages, and advice, about how to take action. “Donate. Text your black friends for support. Have the tough conversations. Call your loved ones out on their racist rhetoric. Spend your money at black businesses. Black lives matter, black children matter, black parents matter. ✊?✊?✊?✊?” one person posted.
“Love is the answer. They are trying to be heard. People aren’t listening!” another added.
Sofia is the latest of many celebrities using their platforms to speak out about racial inequality, police brutality, and the brutal murder of George Floyd.
