Love him or hate him, Simon Cowell has been in the Hollywood spotlight for quite a while. He didn't get to the top without clawing his way up from the bottom. Here are a few fast facts about the sometimes abrasive music commentator and judge.

This Is Always Where He Wanted To Be

Soon after high school, Cowell decided he wanted to be in the music-publishing business. As the '80s rolled into the '90s, Cowell was there, learning about artists and spotting their weaknesses.

His Brash Style Remains Constant

Cowell first became known as one of the judges on Season 1 of "American Idol" way back in 2002. People were drawn to his confrontational style; those who didn't like him could turn to Paula Abdul or Randy Jackson for opinions on the latest rising star.

He later left "American Idol" to serve as a judge on "The X Factor." That success paved the way for him to develop a new competition format, a little show called "America's Got Talent." That's been around since 2006.

Cowell got his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August, 2018. Given his success, it's a good bet he'll be around for years to come, whether we like it or not.
