Rob Zombie Pays Tribute to Sid Haig After Horror Actor Dies at 80

By Gary Trock

Legendary horror actor Sid Haig died on Saturday at 80 years old, and Rob Zombie is among the many paying tribute to the star known as Captain Spaulding.

Haig's death was announced Monday morning by his widow, Susan L. Oberg.

"He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be. He adored his family, his friends and his fans," Oberg wrote on Instagram.

Haig appeared in more than 50 films throughout his vast career, which ranged in low-budget exploitation films, to roles in George Lucas' "THX 1138" and the James Bond thriller, "Diamonds Are Forever."

He is best known for his role as the terrifying murderous clown, Captain Spaulding, in Rob Zombie films like "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects."

Zombie took to social media on Monday, after news of his death broke, and paid honor to the star.

"Horray for Captain Spaulding. Gone but not forgotten," he wrote alongside a photo of Haig dressed in full clown makeup with his mouth agape.

Many fans expressed their condolences and commented with messages of love for the late actor.

It's unclear what the cause of Haig's death was, but his widow did reveal that, "This came as a shock to all of us."

According to the horror fan message boards, Haig reportedly had a bad fall earlier this year that led to other health complications. It's unclear if the incident played a role in his death.

Haig most recently appeared in Rob Zombie's "3 From Hell," which released on September 16 and is a sequel to "House of 1000 Corpses."
