Shane Gillis, the newest member of the "SNL" cast, tried to apologize for his recent racist comments, but people online are not buying it.

Comments Surfaced On 'Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast'

Yesterday NBC announced that Shane Gillis would join the longtime comedy show, along with newcomers Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, the show's first Asian cast member.

It was only hours later when freelance writer Seth Simons uncovered a video of Gillis and Matt McCusker on their YouTube channel, "Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast."

Gillis and McCusker's racist comments on the expletive-laden podcast weren't from years ago - they took place in 2018.

Gillis and McCusker were discussing a Chinatown neighborhood and were so clearly racist in their comments.

"Chinatown's f—ing nuts," Gillis tells McCusker. "Let the f—ing ch— live there."

Both derided Chinese restaurants, alluding to the language barrier, with Gillis saying "The translation between you and the waiter is such a f—ing hassle, I'm pointing at it," apparently referring to the menu.

We Don't Think You're Being Sincere

Soon after, Gillis issued an apology online, saying he's a comedian who "pushes boundaries."

"I'm happy to apologize to anyone who's actually offended by anything I've said," he wrote.

"Actually offended"?

@CramBeilttog, like many others, took issue with Gillis' statement that he's a 'boundary pushing' comedian:

"I'm happy to apologize to anyone else who digs up more of the 'boundary pushing' material I frantically deleted from YouTube to avoid this very thing from happening. There ya go, fixed."

The Ball's In SNL's Court

Gillis' apology continued: "I am trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes that requires risks."

Mike Ryan, senior entertainment writer at Uproxx, said Gillis' actions warrant his dismissal from the award-winning show.

"I started covering SNL professionally in 2010 and I’ve had a strict rule I NEVER comment publicly about cast members’ future employment status because it didn’t seem fair. But Shane Gillis is now the exception. Completely unacceptable and he needs to be dismissed immediately."
