Scott Baio is heartbroken over the loss of one of his oldest friends in showbiz and someone he considered a mentor when he was a young actor.
Baio tells The Blast, “I’ve never met anybody in show business that loved being a producer more than him,” referring to the late Al Burton, who passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 92 years old.
We’re told Burton loved taking meetings and calls so much, that he was even known for carrying around 2 cellphones!
Burton served as executive producer on “Charles In Charge” from 1984 – 1990 and was involved with creating some of the greatest TV show theme songs of all time, including “Facts of Life” and “Diff’rent Strokes.”
The “Facts of Life” theme was created alongside Gloria Loring and her then-husband, Alan Thicke.
Burton was also the co-creator of the longtime Comedy Central game show, “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” and served as executive producer of the spinoff talk show, “Turn Ben Stein On.”
After learning of Burton’s passing from his wife, Baio took to Twitter to share his condolences with fans.
“He taught me so much about television when we did Charles in Charge. I was fortunate
enough to see Al and sit down with him several years ago. He was the most optimistic and fun producer I’ve ever worked with,” Baio wrote.
