The creators of “Schitt’s Creek” just dropped a bombshell — the Rose Family will be taking their final bows because this upcoming season will be their last.
Dan Levy, who created and stars as David Rose in the hit show, made the announcement Thursday on behalf of him and his dad, Eugene Levy.
He revealed their sixth season had been picked up by CBC and Pop, but that it would also be the last.
“We are so grateful to have been given the time and creative freedom to tell this story in its totality, concluding with a final chapter that we had envisioned from the very beginning,” Levy wrote. “It’s not lost on us what a rare privilege it is in this industry to get to decide when your show should take its final bow.”
Thanking fans for their “overwhelming love and generosity,” he continues, “We could never have dreamed that our fans would grow to love and care about these characters in the ways that you have.”
“We hope you continue to enjoy the rest of our fifth season as we prepare to shoot our sixth!”
The comedy, which features real-life dad and kids, Eugene, Dan and Sarah Levy, began airing in 2015. Some other standout co-stars include Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy, Chris Elliott, Emily Hampshire and Jennifer Robertson.
The series follows the Rose family’s journey from living the high-life to finding themselves broke and regrouping in “Schitt’s Creek.”
